Actually they probably are. If anyone has been following my peak oil diatribes, they'd know that.
A fascinating read:

OK, so what do I invest in to get rich off this thing, oil companies? Vespa?

I wonder about some of these companies in Canada that are extracting oil from shale. It's an expensive way to extract oil, and only becomes lucrative when the price of oil rises. From what I understand, Canada has huge shale oil reserves.
I've also had a liking toward pipelines. Anymore, they are next to impossible to build, due to regulations, plus the resistance of anyone wanting one in their backyard. I know Warren Buffet swiped up some pipelines at fire sale prices during the chaos of the energy industry a few years ago, when the trading business took a hit and companies like Williams needed to sell valuable assets to raise cash.
It's something I need to read up on. I own no energy stocks of my own. I tend to focus on banking, but I'm afraid those are going to take a hit.
The more I think about it, the more I see Vespa as the company to own when this oil crisis suddenly hits out of nowhere. I can't wait to see Trav on one of these Bad Boyz!
As the crisis deepens, owning Schwinn is the way to winn (c) as I-75 is converted to a six lane bicycle trail!

Thisis Trav's next toy.
Sad part is, I could get a TT for that money.
Actually if you believe that, within the next 10 years or so, oil is going to be practically unobtainable for all but the extremely wealthy then other forms of power will become a requirement. One of those will be solar. Do you know what one of the major ingredients in making solar panels are??? Silver.
I would look at holding a percentage of my portfolio in precious metals. Gold & Silver would be my main two.
My $.02
I'm switching my retirement account into Vespa, Schwinn, and Rockport, covering the full spectrum from high powered scooters to walking shoes.
Oh...and ammo. Lots and lots of ammo!!
